Grand Knight Ed Hughes received a community service award from the district deputy on behalf at the council at the May council meeting. The award was announced at the State Convention held in Erie PA and recognizes the exceptional community service provided by the members of council 4678

Alex Geidroc was our Honoree at the First Degree class on September 7th.  Alex is a PGK and former Club President. Alex turned 85 on that date and we presented him a gift of appreciation.  We welcomed four new members.

Father O'Hanlon Council hosted the State Soccer Challenge on November 19, 2016 at Fogleman Field for the 12th year in a row. The weather turned cold and windy, but 9 brother Knights performed their judging duties without any glitches.

The results from the state finalists shown in the photograph will be forwarded on to nationals to determine how their scores compare to the rest of the country.

Council 4678 provided much of the volunteers for the aquatics competition at the 2016 PA Special Olympics held June 3rd and 4th on the Penn State campus. Each year Knights and their families help at the two-day event.

The second annual outreach dinner for people in our community was held on Sunday February 12th. One-hundred meals were served. It was organized by Brother George McCormick. Thank you to the many Knights, volunteers from local groups and churches and Boy Scout Troop 83 who participated.

The Council hosted the local youth free throw on Jan 29th and the District free throw on Feb 19. Pictures of the winner are shown above.

The council and the Red Cross held its February bloodmobile on Feb 14th.  47 pints were collected, exceeding our goal of 43. Good job!

Annual Easter Egg Hunt was held on Saturday April 15th. Thank you to our Chairman, Randy Fisher, Boy Scout Troop 83 and all the other volunteers that made the event a success.

Due to the generosity of one of its members, Council 4678 purchased and distributed 750.00 worth of heating fuel assistance, a Christmas dinner for a family and almost two hundred dollars worth of grocery store gift certificates to Catholic Charities in Bellefonte. Thank you to the Knight who donated the money and those who bought and distributed the items!


Council 4678 made its annual donation to Voice of Devine Mercy Catholic Radio in December to sponsor an entire month of broadcasting. 

2016

The council participated in a Fifth Sunday Rosary on Sunday April 30th after the 9:30 am Mass at Our Lady of Victory Church.  The Rosary was led by Council members after the Mass.  Thanks to Chairman Matt Hunt and the members and their families who participated.

The Council ran a breakfast at OLV church on May 7th. The event  raised over 3300.00 for Fr. Charles’ Anawim project.  Anawim is a faith based organization whose goal is to heed the call of Christ to alleviate suffering thorough Education while providing for the unmet medical and material needs of the poorest in Nigeria. We thank the Anawim board, Boy Scout Troop 83 and Knights and family members who helped at the event

Brothers helping brother. Members of the council helped relocate one of their own on May 13th. Over 30 people participated. One of the crews is shown on the left. Special care was taken transporting the statue of the Blessed Mother to its new location! It was hard work, but everyone had a good time.

Seminarian Peter Crowe received a Mass Kit from Faithful Navigator Dennis Marince as a gift from the Our Lady of Victory Fourth Degree Assembly #1945 at the May Council meeting. Father Crowe was ordained later that week in the Altoona-Johnstown diocese. The Council helped support Peter for years through the KofC RSVP program. Father Crowe is member of Fr. O'Hanlon Council and also the Fourth Degree Assembly.

Ruthie Dangelo received the Council $750 Scholarship from Mark Thorwart, Scholarship Chairman as father Dave Dangelo and Grand Knight Dennis Marince look on.  Ruthie also received the State Council Scholarship Award in the amount of $3000. She will be attending Bloomsburg University in the fall majoring in nursing.  The presentation was made prior to the May Council meeting.

Father Ralph Mensah from St. Patricks in Ghana spoke at the June Meeting. Father Ralph is visiting OLV this summer. The council has supported his school in the past and is planning a breakfast to be held Sept. 24that the OLV activities center to benefit his school. Check the website and the OLV bulletin for details.

The 2017 baby bottle campaign collected over $8000.00 from OLV parish and made its own donation to bring the total raised during to over 9,000.00. The proceeds will assist 18 mothers and their baby. Shown in the photo, Arlene Alison of the Gabriel Project receives a check from Grand Knight Dennis Marince. Thank you to all who donated and volunteered.

The Council and the Red Cross held a blood drive on Tuesday August 15th. The drive collected 37 units of blood, enough to help 90 people that are in need. Thank you to the volunteers and the 40 people who came through the door. The next drive is October 17th from 1 to 6:30 PM.  Come give the gift of life.

The Council held its Annual Picnic on August 25th and distributed a number of awards. Shown here, Jack McGrail won the lifetime achievement award, Dave DeAntonio the Knight Volunteer of the year and GK Dennis Marince the Knight of the year.

The Knights of Columbus held a breakfast at the OLV activities Center on September 24th to benefit Father Ralph Mensah’s mission school, St. Patrick’s in Ghana. Over 200 people were served and almost $3,000 raised. The council donated all of the supplies and labor. OLV provided kitchen facilities and the invaluable support from its pastor, Father Dadey. Thank you to GK Marince for organizing the event and the many volunteers who helped.

Knight’s Mass. More than 24 Knights from our council served as ushers, readers, and Eucharistic Ministers at the 9:30 am Mass at OLV on Sunday, October 8th. Knights Deacon Dave Lipinski and Father Antony Sudherson celebrated the Mass. Thanks to Matt Hunt and Bob Hershey for coordinating the event.

Council 4678 volunteered at the aquatics events at the PA Special Olympics on June 2-4th. The events are held on the Penn State Campus.

The council, held its Third Annual Outreach Dinner on Sunday afternoon February 11th. The event was held in cooperation with agencies that serve different groups in the area.  Thank you to George McCormick and Dave DeAntonio for spearheading the event.
